Jammu & Kashmir known as Heaven on earth has been gradually transformed into hell by the Govt.of India through its security and pramilitary forces.These forces have let loose a reign of terror on the people of Kashmir for the past 21 yrs.
Almost 90 civilians have been killed by these forces alone in the ongoing turmoil which started on 11 june with the killing of an innocent teenager Tufail ahmad mattoo. After june 11,the Valley has been turned into a fortress by the Govt. and killings also haven't stopped there, it has spread to every nook and corner of the valley from Kupwara to Anantnag, Bandipora to Budgam. People from all age groups have been targeted by the forces, be it 9 yr old Sameer Ahmed of Batamaloo or 50 yr old Abdul. Qayyoom of Sangrama even women haven't been spared. This indiscriminate killing spree of Indian security forces have even flared up the anger. A population of 5 million has been held hostage by the forces, not allowing them to open the windows and even pray in masjids(mosques).
The present movement is another phase in the struggle of the people of Jammu & Kashmir against it's occupation by India since 1947. This phase may prove to be decisive one in solving the dispute. For some the question may arise What do the people want? This question can best be answered by the people themselves. How? Right-to-self-determination or Plebiscite is the answer. It should give not only the Govt. of India but the world community which is maintaining a guilty silence a writing on the wall to be acted upon i.e., solution to a political problem as per the wishes and aspirations of the people.
Keeping in view the current stand of Govt.of.India it may not lose the territory but it will surely end up losing the people.
