Sentiment of Aazadi! (exposing Indian brutality)

Featured Post
We can kill people to suppress their ‘hum kya chahte, Azadi’ (we want, Freedom) slogans but how can we suppress their sentiments, their feelings, their emotions and their outlook and attitude which tells them that ‘Indian occupation is illegal, it is tyrannical and pure oppression’, Mehdi Siddique has his take...

It is the first time from past 63 years that the Indian media, public at large and intellectuals have accepted that there is a word ‘Azadi’ buzzing around Jammu and Kashmir. But the irony is that some of them define it their ‘own’ way and link it with jobs, placements, security etc while others openly condemn this spirit which they very well know means complete independence from Indian state. Some people question the survival of Kashmir as an independent state while others see this sentiment from the prism of Pakistan; define it as a communal war which needs to be suppressed ‘by any means necessary’!

To begin with we must understand that nothing is spontaneous in nature, be it creation of Israel, 2002 Gujrat riots, America’s war on ‘terror’ or the demolishment of Babri masjid. Everything is very much deep rooted and represents an ideology. It is this ideological war which brings in every big change in the society or world at large. And Kashmir is no exception to this battle of ideologies, a battle of hearts and minds.

If today Kashmir is at boil, it will be a pure misnomer to say that this change is spontaneous, nothing happens spontaneously. Kashmiris are the guardians of an ideology and this has made them come on streets time and again, and it will never end till kashmiris achieve what they believe is justly theirs. ‘How did the situation turn bad’ some question, failing to understand that ‘situation’ was never good and it can’t be good unless the ideological clash is over.

Kashmir has never seen durable peace, right from the early 6th century, Kashmir has been a place where blood is no better than water, which flows in the valley streets day in and day out. What can we say about the Psychological health of people who have witnessed such ruthless rulers who used to tear apart a woman’s belly to see the foetus? And rulers who plundered and raped like lunatics? And rulers whose massacre turned the population half? And rulers who plunged dagger in between a woman’s breasts?

When United Nations came into existence in 1945, the whole world was undergoing through a change, standard of living was increasing steeply and people were busy in their pursuit of quality life and serenity, Kashmir continued in status quo. The life of the people became far more miserable after 1947. Indian army stepped in Kashmir and it became the world’s largest army camp. People of ‘paradise’, who were alien to modern diseases, now came in contact with tuberculosis, serious mental disorders and other parasitical and viral chaos. “Women came out worse due to the stresses of pregnancy and sexual exploitation by the army. The army assigned nomenclature to various types of torture. They were proud of the success in executing these novel forms of torture. The ‘Operation Shiva’ meant the flaying of the body until it dismembered. ‘Operation Tiger’ was aimed at killing by ‘slashing with a knife, a little at a time; Bleeding profusely, and shock of pain would help to bring an end to another human being. Rolling over victims with a road roller is a first time ever such a method of torture was practised in Kashmir. Baldder Bursting, (where a man was made to drink lot of water and not allowed to urinate, which made the urinary bladder swollen, which got bursted when army men jumped on the man’s abdomen) Hanging upside down (which caused blindness) and electric shocks and burns with cigarette ends were (are) some other methods of torture”, writes Majid Sirajin his book, Kashmir Desolation or peace

Can a kashmiri forget the brutal death of nearly One lakh Kashmiris, the molestation of over nine thousand kashmiri women, the orphanage of over 100 thousand Kashmiri children and the tears of countless Kashmiri widows? If No, then the spirit of Azadi can never die. It is this spirit which encourages a common kashmiri to face bullets without any weapon, and it is this spirit which challenges the might of ‘mighty’ India and it is this spirit that will lead Kashmir to its Azadi. The ideology which bravely declares ‘Kashmir belongs to Kashmiris’ can’t be suppressed ‘by any means’. India has failed to integrate Kashmir from past 63 years with itself, and today when it is deemed to be the future ‘Superpower’, it is failing itself again.

We can kill people to suppress their ‘hum kya chahte, Azadi’ (we want, Freedom) slogans but how can we suppress their sentiments, their feelings, their emotions and their outlook and attitude which tells them that ‘Indian occupation is illegal, it is tyrannical and pure oppression’.

Kashmiris very well understand the stubborn attitude of India, but surprisingly that least bothers them, they seem to be in a pursuit of ‘history making’, where oppressed people get freedom while their oppressor is in full might and power! This is perhaps why we see protests intensifying even after three months of shutdown. Each and every corner of society has set-forth the shock waves. Be it local streets or Quiet mosques, silent  hospitals or educational institutes, weird Internet or print media, busy government establishments or private sector, from stone to a heart every thing and every one is sharing a common sentiment, Azadi. We see injured patients raising pro-freedom slogans while APD comes to meet them, we see how Wikipedia marks the ‘Facebook revolution’, we can hear the taranas around everywhere played in mosques, we can read the writings of many writers and bloggers demanding freedom, we see how UN’s remarks are welcomed by leading industrialists, when we see the whole society up and sharing one vision, one mission and one struggle then we must realize that the ultimate revolution is not far away.

Today a common Kashmiri can knock down any political leader of India, he has memorized the facts well, tremendous amount of information has been shared via interviews, magazines, news channels, articles, blogs etc.The young generation has already started questioning their integration with India, ‘Kashmir never was the integral part of India, history is a testimony to it’, says a college student. ‘Indian government is cheating its people by giving them wrong statistics about Kashmir’, says a writer. ‘Why Indian leaders are afraid to address K-issue’ says a blogger. ‘Kashmir wants from India just what India wanted from British’, says a Facebook user.

At the same time Kashmiris are conscious enough not to let the ‘vexed interests’ enter their rows, even in the worst hit crisis they have managed to maintain the best form of communal harmony, their call for ‘Azadi’ is for all sections of society, irrespective of religion, caste or creed.

While these developments are prominent and wide visible, the central government and the puppet state government is trying their best to crush the movement. It is high time that they realize that sentiments and aspirations can never be crushed, the bombardment of over 7,00,000 troops has already proved a failure, investment of crores of rupees in think tanks and agencies has rendered no results, past policies of ‘misleading’ their people and world community is proving now fatal, secret political crimes are being unveiled, infusion of disunity and re-colouring the movement with communal colours has yielded nothing, repeating the magic mantra ‘Kashmir is attot ang (integral part) of India’ is not working, thus has India failed on every front.

Kashmiri sentiments are deep rooted, kashmiris are the representatives of an ideology and this is continuously  turning them up without any arms against the deadly arms, this battle of hearts and minds will continue till Kashmiris achieve which they believe is justly theirs, Azadi.
